| 240x160, 5-bit grayscale LCD module with backlightLimited power consumption, LED backlight | This device is a very good solution for low-power applications, yet allowing
to have a decent user intereface.
.
Advantages of this display
- You can display a lot of information. For instance with 5-pixel wide
characters and 1 pixel space, you can display 20 lines of 40 characters.
- As this display can work on a 1 byte per pixel mode, you can display
any font you want because you can adapt the resolution at will.
- This display has a grayscale capability, which allows you to display for
instance 2 curves on the same graph.
- It's a graphic module. You can display your company logo without requiring
a custom design, and you can display B&W images.
- This display is equipped with a LED backlight.
Here are photographs of this display with text and graphics:
This LCD is delivered with its FPC connector for your convenience, and an
interface board is under design. It will allow to use this LCD on a universal
printed circuit (pitch = 2.54mm).
Typical applications
You can use this display for low-power measurement devices. It allows you to
display graphics (bargraphs, curves) without taking too much CPU power. As it
has a grayscale capability, you can also display more than 1 curve on the same
graphics.
As the backlight is independent on the LCD power, backlight can be switched off,
therefore reducing power consumption. The display driver can also be put in
partial mode (for instance when in standby, you can use this mode to display
time only), therefore further redusing the power consumption.
Its total internal display data is 38400 bytes (240 x 160 @ 1 byte per pixel
to make things simple).
A smart way to refresh it is to use a DMA (in which case you need the same
amount of RAM in or around your MPU). At 8 MHz DMA clock, it would take about
5 ms for a complete refresh.
Kit contents
This LCD can be purchased with its connector if you want to make your own board,
or with an adaptor board if you want to use it in a hand-wired hardware.
Our product naming conventions are as follows:
- LCD is simply called after its part number (in this case PW240160LCD)
- The LCD and the connector set is called after its part number, with the suffix
SET. (In this case PW240160LCDSET).
- Finally, the LCD + connnector + adaptor board set is called KIT (in this case
PW240160LCDKIT).
