| Soroban seriesGreat functionality in a small design |
Soroban series are general-purpose evaluation kit boards with data logging
capability, based on Texas Instruments' MSP430 Microcontrollers. The current
versions are F169 and F1611.
Soroban is in fact a reference design aimed at development of MSP430-based
products. It provides basic functionnalities for time keeping, display,
recording and also some basic interactivity with a 3 position navigation button.
Advantages on existing boards
- This board has been designed with field test in mind. It is especially used
for portable devices such as medical monitoring systems. We did our best to
keep it small and low-power consuming.
- This board has a set of 4 extension connectors mirrorring all the pins of
the MSP430. It is therefore easy to add measurement hardware on a daughter card
that we call "mezzanines". You will find several development examples on this
site.
- As all the mezzanines have the same connectors, a single Soroban board can
be used for several projects. Within a few minutes, you can change the mezzanine
and load another program, making it a completely different product.
- We deliver to our customer reference application designs (for instance
an accelerometer, a routine to set up the clock, the date, a routine to write
data in the SD card, etc...). We do also provide a free FAT16 evaluation library
allowing you to write files that can then be read with your PC.

| | | Soroban Development kit PW-SB1611 |  | This is a development kit based on TI's MSP430 F1611. It is basically the
same as PW-SB169, but the processor memory is 10240 bytes instead of 2048.
The Flash is smaller, 48 kBytes instead of 60.
You may also want to purchase Texas' USB JTAG emulator.

evaluation board and a standard development mezzanine (pitch = 1.27mm).
As this board uses a miniature JTAG connector, an adaptor is also provided
to connect TI's JTAG emulator to this board.
You may also want to purchase Texas' USB JTAG emulator.
